Sue originally studied and taught contemporary dance before moving into the field of commercial art and design. Her studies in the fine art areas of painting and sculpture followed, learning her craft initially at Hampstead Garden Suburb Institute and then privately with various professional artists.
For her sculpture Sue works both with stone and with various types of clay creating mainly figurative pieces, sometimes working with a model and often with imaginary characters. Studying with different tutors including those at West Dean College and the Portland Stone Quarry has given her opportunities to work with a wide range of materials and types of stone.
Many of Sue’s paintings are in oil on canvas, covering a variety of themes. The mood or character of her work is of prime importance and she is often drawn to the qualities of energy and expressive movement. Although her work is generally representational she also explores abstract concepts and a few examples in both in sculpture and painting are included on this website.
Sue lives and works in North London and is a member of the Chelsea Art Society, exhibiting every year at their Annual Exhibition at Chelsea Old Town Hall as well as in various London galleries and art spaces.
